Talk by art historian Laudien-Meo. The Surrealist artist Dali made his first trip to the US in 1934 and instantaneously a very intense relationship developed. Dali had very successful exhibitions at Julien Levy and MoMA, he worked in fashion and jewelry, designed a pavilion for the 1939 World’s Fair, worked with the Metropolitan Opera, but also Hitchcock, Disney and the Marx Brothers, found wealthy patrons, connected with Andy Warhol and anticipated Pop Art in many ways. Like many European artists he and Gala spent the war years in exile in the US, but even later, he continuously returns to the New World for new adventures.
