Event Details

In 1927, Babe Ruth put an explanation point on the New York Yankees season with a record 60 home runs, a total never reached before.

And then, 34 years later, along came Roger Maris.

Like Ruth, Maris had a fluid left-handed swing that was tailor-made for the cozy right-field stands of Yankee Stadium. And like Ruth, he made those seats a frequent target, breaking one of baseball's most sacred records by hitting 61 home runs in 1961.

In his next Sachem Library presentation, award-winning sports writer Hal Bock revisits Maris' record-breaking season and the pulsating long ball battle he staged with teammate Mickey Mantle to break Babe Ruth's record.
