Presented by Stony Brook Children’s Hospital’s Comprehensive Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention (CAPP) Program in collaboration with COMPASS Unity.

Drugs, including tobacco and alcohol, are easily available to children and adolescents. As a parent, you have a major impact on your child’s decision not to use drugs. Parents are powerful! Studies show that parents are the strongest influence when it comes to substance use.

Drug abuse prevention starts with parents learning how to talk with their children about difficult topics. Join Maria McCue, Stony Brook Children’s CAPP Health Educator Supervisor and Lacey Donlon, LMSW, School Social Worker, Somoset Middle School, as they provide parents and caregivers with the necessary tools to understand adolescent development, current drug trends and ways to communicate with their teens and young adults about alcohol and drug use.

Part I helps parents to understand how their child develops and how that development can be affected by alcohol and substance use.
