Event Details

Through a brilliant 16-year career in which he played a record 2,130 consecutive games, Gehrig was one of baseball's most feared sluggers. He was the perfect partner to Ruth in a power-laden Yankee lineup, compiling a .340 lifetime batting average with 493 home runs, 23 of the grand slams. And then, suddenly, this man they called the Iron Horse was struck down with a terrible disease. There was no cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis then and it remains a medical mystery today. Two years after his diagnosis, Lou Gehrig died of the disease that now carries his name. Award-winning sportswriter Hal Bock will present an examination of the career of one of baseball's greatest sluggers.
