Melinda Hunt, founding director of The Hart Island Project, will talk about Hart Island’s past, present, and future. It is the largest municipal cemetery in the United States and the most affordable green burial option for New Yorkers. Municipalities in New York State are required to bury unclaimed bodies; learn about how the City of New York handles this obligation and why the stigma of city burials is hard to overcome.
