Event Details
At the turn of the 20th century, football was largely a college sport. Games were played on campuses across the country. There were a few loosely organized professional teams but no structure to the sport. Then in 1920, that changed when seven men including the great Jim Thorpe, representing four teams gathered in a Canton, Ohio auto dealership to organize the American Professional Football Conference. From those humble beginnings, professional football evolved into the National Football League, a multi-billion dollar enterprise that rules the sports landscape. Award-winning sports writer Hal Bock traces the beginnings and the history of America's most popular sport.
