Program Description
Event Details
The City Tavern was a restaurant and gathering place in colonial Philadelphia, just a short walk from Carpenter’s Hall, where the first Continental Congress met in 1774, and Independence Hall (where the Congress moved later.) Paul Revere, Benjamin Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Richard Henry Lee and Peyton Randolph were among those who dined there. And last but not least, the first Fourth of July celebration was held there in 1777! It burned in 1854, but has since been restored. Come and taste a couple of 18th century dishes from the Tavern and take a bite of history.
