Event Details
For the Boston Celtics, the goal was to have coach Red Auerbach light up a victory cigar on the bench, a sign that his team had wrapped up another victory.
And Auerbach’s Celtics had plenty of those, winning 11 National Basketball Association championships in 13 years with a roster that dominated the league. The point guard was Bob Cousy. The center was Bill Russell. They were surrounded by a roster of stars from John Havlicek and Sam Jones to Satch Sanders and Tom Heinsohn.
Award winning sportswriter Hal Bock explains the chemistry that the Celtics used to dominate their sport.
